Restrictions on the importation of motor cars, motorcycles, and other forms of transport vary greatly from one country to another, even within the European Community. There is no ‘general rule’ that can be applied, and proper advice must be sought before committing yourself to ship a vehicle to another country. By example, restrictions here in Cyprus apply to eligibility for relief from Vehicle Excise Duty, an ‘internal’ excise duty, placed outside the scope of EC Free Movement directives. Currently, excise duties are applicable on the C02 emission of cars, unless the importer can claim ‘personal’ relief. We can advise on the current rules and regulations and ship your car, not only in Cyprus, but around the world, where high import duty rates, strict emission controls, and incompatible safety standards, amongst other criteria, may render vehicle importation extremely difficult, expensive, or outright impossible.
